The Sanford-Springvale Chamber of Commerce is a 250 business member organization. Our mission is to promote a positive business climate which best serves our membership and community through business retention and expansion. The work of the Sanford-Springvale Chamber of Commerce is accomplished with the support of our volunteer Board of Directors and hard-working committee members.
General Summary:
The Sanford-Springvale Chamber of Commerce is seeking a dynamic, community-minded leader to serve as the President/Executive Director of the Sanford-Springvale Chamber of Commerce. The President/Executive Director, in collaboration with the Board of Directors, is responsible for all facets of the organization’s performance. The primary objectives include implementing strategic initiatives to promote the economic prosperity of the Sanford-Springvale Chamber of Commerce. This includes promoting, marketing, advocating for the interests of the membership, developing a strong membership base, community event planning, fundraising and financial management, and developing partnerships with the City of Sanford and civic organizations.
Job Functions:
Promote the Sanford-Springvale region, the communities the Chamber serves, and its member businesses.
Actively build and expand membership by soliciting new members and implementing strategies that will help members become engaged in the Chamber’s activities. Increase participation and improve retention of the organization’s membership base.
Regularly meet with members to learn more about each business’ specific needs, future plans, and expectations of the Chamber. Provide information or connections when possible to help businesses meet their goals.
Maintain active involvement in the communities served by the Chamber and represent the Chamber in various civic and community functions to further enhance its image and promote membership.
Ensure strong financial management which would include the creation and implementation of the annual budget in conjunction with the finance committee, providing financial reports as needed, and maintaining appropriate cash flow.
Develop and implement action plans and annual performance objectives to ensure the Chamber is effectively serving the needs of all stakeholders.
Board Relations: Act as a trusted partner to a diverse Board of Directors, maintaining open communication and guiding strategic decision-making to achieve the Chamber’s long-term objectives
Responsible for bi-monthly reporting to the Board of Directors and monthly to the Executive Committee (which also acts as the Finance Committee) about the development, implementation and accomplishments of all activity conducted by the Chamber as per the programs and goals set by the Board of Directors.
Advise the Board of Directors on policy decisions and make recommendations as to the appropriate course of action. This includes attending bi-monthly meetings as a non-voting member of the Board of Directors and setting the agenda at said meetings in consultation with the Chair.
Supervise the daily operations of the Chamber Office to ensure optimal performance, which includes, but is not limited to the following:
Effectively utilizing the Chamber’s website, and other social and print media to promote the region and its members.
Ensure operational compliance with the organization’s by-laws.
Volunteer Leadership: Attract, develop, and retain a high-performing team. Foster and maintain a positive and supportive organizational culture aligned with the Chamber’s values and strategic goals. Always aware that although our volunteers are “serving” the Chamber we must be mindful that they are also our investors.
Serve as spokesperson for the Chamber across all media and public engagements
Community Leadership: Serve as a community leader, fostering relationships with government entities, local businesses, and other key stakeholders, including serving on relevant boards and commissions. Lead coalitions and partnerships that advance the Chamber’s mission.
Maintain and strengthen relationships with the City of Sanford and elected officials on
the city, county, state, and federal levels.
Maintain a positive and professional attitude when dealing with the public; communicate with tact.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in organizational efforts to raise capital.
Stay informed of developments and trends in state and local government policies that would impact local businesses and communicate the impact to membership. This includes representing the interests of membership at local and state government functions as necessary.
Partner with all Chamber committees to accomplish goals and objectives. Be a resource for the planning and management of Chamber events.
Assist with event planning, setup, business recognitions, and collaborative projects
Represent the Chamber at ribbon cuttings, grand openings, and business/community events
Perform other duties as needed or assigned by the Board of Directors.
Skills/Experience/Training Requirement:
Four-year college degree or a minimum of three years of experience in an executive, business development, sales, or marketing position.
Strong leadership, initiative, creativity, and management skills with at least three years of
experience in a position of increasing supervisory responsibilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including a comfort level with presenting information to large groups of people.
Proficient computer skills, including the use of other office management programs (Microsoft Office, etc.)
Results oriented, with the ability to strategize and prioritize workflow, and balance the
demands of all towns in the region.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to accomplish objectives with minimal supervision.
The utmost degree of integrity, honesty, and the ability to use sound judgment and effective decision-making.
The ability to listen, receive feedback, and foster teamwork between the Board of Directors, office staff, community leaders, and the Chambers membership.
Working Conditions:
Travel is required. Full-time in-office position. Some nights and weekends are required.
Minimal physical effort required. Normally seated with freedom of movement on a regular basis.
Handling of moderately heavy materials.
External and internal applicants, as well as position incumbents who become disabled, must be able to perform the essential job functions (as listed) either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by management on a case-by-case basis.
Compensation Package:
Salary:
$55,000-$60,000
Employee Benefits:
Health insurance contribution: $250 per month ($3,000) yr.
Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation for the first 2 years, 3 weeks paid vacation for years 3-5, and 4 weeks paid vacation after 5 years of employment.
Paid holidays: Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth,
Independence Day, Labor Day, Patriot’s Day, Indigenous Peoples Day, Veterans Day,
Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and December 26, New Year’s Day. Total of 13 days.
Reimbursement of personal cell phone of $100/month.
All learning and development opportunities paid upon approval of the Executive Committee.
Company mileage reimbursement at current federal rate. This is not considered a benefit and will not be included in employee’s income.
